Crystal Palace target Oumar Niasse as they explore free transfer market for striker

Crystal Palace are exploring the free transfer market as they continue their search for a striker after last week pulling out of a deal for Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke.

The Eagles have limited funds and a new arrival is likely to have to be a loan player or a free agent.

They are interested in Oumar Niasse, who looks set to leave Everton after falling out of favour. Palace looked at the Senegal forward (above) last January and are weighing up a bid to bring him to Selhurst Park on loan as they look to add some firepower to their side.

Palace’s struggles in front of goal were highlighted against Grimsby on Saturday, when they toiled to a 1-0 win, despite the League Two side playing with 10 men for almost the entire match.

Palace had 33 attempts on goal but only sneaked through with an 86th-minute goal from Jordan Ayew.

Christian Benteke is close to returning after a knee injury and manager Roy Hodgson says any new arrival will have to improve the options he already has.
