Crystal Palace suffer Wilfried Zaha injury setback ahead of Leeds United clash

Crystal Palace will be without their talisman Wilfried Zaha against Leeds United this weekend.

The frontman had to be replaced by Andros Townsend just 13 minutes into the second half of Palace's defeat of Newcastle on Tuesday night after picking up a hamstring injury.

And Zaha is not ready to return to action yet, which will be a huge setback for the game against 11th-placed Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday night.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, manager Roy Hodgson said when asked if Zaha was fit to play: "No, I'm afraid it's a hamstring injury. We don't know how long it will keep him out, but certainly this weekend and possibly much longer.

"It would be totally unrealistic to expect him to take part this weekend.

Transfer update: How does January spending compare to previous seasons?

"And we haven't had good news on others. From a good point, we're now scratching around for players who could fill in."

Speaking further about Zaha's injury, Hodgson added: "You never know [how long he will be out]. It's a muscle strain and they all take some sort of time to heal. Our people will do their best to get him out on the field as soon as possible."

Hodgson confirmed that James Tomkins and Jeff Schlupp remain out, but James McArthur and Joel Ward had a chance of returning to the first team fold.
