Crystal Palace stun Liverpool to win Community Shield

  • Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool in the Community Shield, winning 3-2 on penalties after the match ended 2-2 at Wembley.

  • Palace appealed for a penalty after Sarr and Mac Allister both challenged for a ball in the air, but it was deemed no handball by the Argentinian, and the game ended in a stalemate.
  • Before kick-off, tributes were paid to the late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, though a minute's silence was cut short due to shouting from some Palace fans.
