Crystal Palace star snubbed for AFCON selection as Wilfried Zaha prepares for Ivory Coast duty

Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp will not be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in January as he hasn't been selected in Ghana's provisional 30-man squad for the tournament.

The midfielder has 20 caps for the Black Stars but has only made three appearances for them in the last three years, with his most recent outing being a 30-minute cameo against Ethiopia in September.

Schlupp's Palace teammate Jordan Ayew is included in head coach Milovan Rajevac's squad meanwhile, along with Arsenal's Thomas Partey and Leicester's Daniel Amartey.

Schlupp will now be available for Patrick Vieira and Crystal Palace over the course of their busy festive schedule, which sees them face three games in seven days starting with a trip to Spurs on Boxing Day.

The Eagles then have crucial games in the FA Cup against Millwall and in the Premier League against Brighton and Liverpool which Schlupp could now be in contention for.

Elsewhere, Wilfried Zaha has been called into the Ivory Coast's squad for the tournament. His international future was cast into doubt when he reportedly asked not to be selected for the Elephants' World Cup qualifiers in November, though Palace manager Vieira insisted Zaha wanted to continue playing for his country.

Cheikhou Kouyate has also been named in the Senegal squad for the tournament alongside Liverpool's Sadio Mane, Chelsea's Edouard Mendy and Watford's Ismalia Sarr.
