Crystal Palace star makes admission over Project Restart and life in lockdown

Patrick van Aanholt has opened up on how much he is missing football and his Crystal Palace team-mates.

The Eagles have not played a Premier League fixture since March, with all professional football in England currently suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Premier League clubs have been in talks over the possible return of football, with the top flight's Project Restart plans being discussed at length in various meetings of shareholders in recent weeks.

An announcement from the government has opened the door to the possible return of football next month behind closed doors, but further discussions are to be held amid concerns over the safety of players, with the pandemic still ongoing.

And van Aanholt admits that while he is missing not being around his team-mates and playing football, he understands the concerns and said players must think of their families as they consider the next steps.

“I’ve missed it, I’ve missed it a lot. Being out with the team, out with the boys," he said, speaking to Sky Sports.

“I do it every day, so once you can’t do it, it makes it harder for you.

“But on the other hand, it is risky because there are a lot of people with coronavirus and a lot of people dying from it.

“I know that we as players are healthy, but we have got to look at our kids you know. Most players have got kids, have got families, and I think the kids are high risk as well.”
