Crystal Palace star gives brutally honest response amid criticism after Sheffield United defeat

Patrick van Aanholt has said that Sheffield United “wanted it more” than Crystal Palace in the Premier League clash on Sunday.

The Eagles slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane against the newly-promoted Blades, with John Lundstram netting the only goal of the game to help Chris Wilder’s men claim all three points.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson said after the game that the Eagles were “not good enough” against the Blades, while Christian Benteke described it as a frustrating afternoon for the south London side.

And van Aanholt has been responding to some fans on Twitter, following criticism and questions about what went wrong on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutchman played the full 90 minutes in the defeat, and he has said that it was a bad day for the Eagles.

Interacting with supporters on the social networking website via his own official account, van Aanholt said: “Sheff Utd just wanted it more than us, boys are p*ssed, we just couldn’t get going, but it’s a long season ahead, back to work.

“Week in week out? It’s not humanly possible, a bad day in the office happens.

"That was one of our bad days, we pick ourselves up we go again.”

His brutal honesty was appreciated by some fans, although some supporters responded to the defender with further criticism, adding that he should focus on trying to put things right on the pitch.
