Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has won Goal of the Year at the London Football Awards in Battersea.

Townsend’s rocket of a volley in Palace’s shock 3-2 win at Manchester City earlier this season earned the gong, which is a new addition to this year’s awards.

Townsend, who has acquired something of a reputation for scoring screamers over the years, was also nominated for the Player of the Year award after an impressive season so far, in which he has scored seven times in all competitions.

The awards, which celebrate the best of London football in the 2018/19 season, are voted for by a panel of 22 experts from across the football industry, including ex-players such as Bobby Zamora, Bob Wilson and Tony Cottee.

Prior to the ceremony, it was confirmed that Tottenham and England legend Glenn Hoddle would receive the Outstanding Contribution to London Football award.
