Crystal Palace send Jesurun Rak-Sakyi for scans over injury amid fears of a long lay-off

Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is set for scans this week to determine the severity of his hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old suffered an injury in training on Thursday and missed Saturday’s 2-0 win at Burnley, having just won October’s player of the month award at Palace.

Rak-Sakyi, who has made six Premier League appearances this season, is the latest Palace player to sustain a hamstring injury, following Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Odsonne Edouard, Jefferson Lerma and Nathan Ferguson.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson said on Saturday: “It is bad. We don’t know 100 per cent. We’re not talking a week or two — we’re probably talking longer than that. It’s a real blow.

“Just as you get Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise back almost into the fold, you lose another player who we think is very important for us in our attacking play. We regained two and lost one. I would have preferred to have all three.”

Hodgson said last week that Rak-Sakyi has the “talent” and “potential” to become Palace’s next Wilfried Zaha.

Rak-Sakyi was born in Southwark and joined the Palace academy from Chelsea in 2019.

He scored 15 goals on loan at Charlton in League One last season, winning their player of the year award.
