Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend on overcoming a 'crappy' week, Zaha's magic & taking his chance

Andros Townsend was pleased to help exercise Crystal Palace's demons to help them defeat Norwich City following on from the demoralising draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Newcastle and Tottenham winger, maintained his composure in stoppage time to control the ball and fire a shot through a number of bodies to seal the Eagles' victory after Wilfried Zaha had carried the ball in from the byline.

Roy Hodgson's side were 1-0 up when Townsend entered the field and the 28-year-old was very aware the match was mirroring the previous week where Wolves scored a 95th minute equaliser. Townsend was pleased to help relax with a few minutes to spare.

He said: "We're delighted with the three points, it's been a crappy week for us with us conceding in the last minute against Wolves so to be in that same situation with ten or fifteen minutes to go, only one goal lead, at times you fear the worst. We dug out well today and thankfully Wilf did a bit of magic like he usually does and I was able to finish it off and ease our fears for the last five minutes."

Townsend may have capped of his two-minute cameo with a goal but when he entered the field he was predominantly focused on adding to the Eagles' defensive efforts. However, he is hopeful his goal can help a return to the starting XI.

He said: "Even as a forward thinking player when you're 1-0 up and you come on with twenty five minutes to go, first and foremost you have to see out the win. You're the one with fresh legs, you have to help out the defence, track runners, the ugly side of it.

"Thankfully I got my chance in the box today, I took it and hopefully I can build on that and go on a little run.

"When I get my chance I have to take it like I did today, I just have to be patient."
