Crystal Palace’s aim each season is just to stay up, says Alexander Sorloth

Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth has aimed a bizarre dig at the Eagles’ ambition of avoiding relegation from the Premier League every season.

Sorloth was sent on loan to Turkish side Trabzonspor for two seasons over the summer, after scoring just once in 20 appearances following an £8million move from FC Midtjylland in January 2018.

The Norway international has notched 12 goals in 23 appearances so far this season and has claimed his reason for moving was due to Palace’s target set at the start of each campaign to stay in the top flight.

“There were two reasons for my decision,” Sorloth told Trabzonspor’s official magazine.

“I knew that the Super Lig was relatively balanced, so at the end of the season you get the chance to [play] in the Europa League or Champions League.

“Another reason was the strong team and the title ambitions of Trabzonspor.

"In comparison, Crystal Palace are a club whose primary goal is always to stay up.”
