Crystal Palace return positive Covid test as players miss training due to Watford postponement

Crystal Palace's playing squad have all returned negative Covid-19 tests after at least one member of staff at the club tested positive for the virus this week, football.london understands.

The Eagles had the day off of training on Friday due to their game against Watford on Saturday being postponed, and all submitted negative lateral flow results in the club's latest round of testing.

The playing squad are now awaiting the results of PCR tests to arrive on Saturday morning, though the club currently plans on returning to training as normal on Monday in preparation for their Boxing Day game away at Spurs.

Palace have been largely unaffected by positive Covid cases within their playing squad this season, which is more than what can be said for other teams in the Premier League.

Rescheduled opponents Watford have been struck down by several cases within their first team, while Tottenham have called off league matches against Leicester and Brighton as well as a Europa League Conference tie against Rennes.

Do you think the Premier League should pause to deal with the latest surge in Covid cases? Have your say

Some Premier League managers - like Brentford's Thomas Frank - have expressed their desire for the league to postpone fixtures to "break the chains" of infection.

The Eagles co-owner and chairman Steve Parish is against that idea, and voiced his opposition to it on BBC Breakfast on Friday morning.

He said that as things stand he would be against pausing the league and that he didn't think the current level of postponements warranted a break in play.
