Crystal Palace ready to announce Roy Hodgson exit to give manager farewell on fan return against Arsenal

Crystal Palace are prepared to announce Roy Hodgson’s departure earlier than expected in order to allow fans the chance to pay tribute to the manager at their final home game against Arsenal next week.

Hodgson is out of contract at the end of this season and expected to leave the club. The 73-year-old has been adamant that any announcement over his future would be left until after the end of the season, but supporters are keen to bid farewell after four years of punching above his weight with the Eagles.

The London derby will have 6,500 fans in attendance with supporters allowed to return to stadiums at reduced capacity from Monday as part of the next stage of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

Chairman Steve Parish has met with the former England manager to make a call on a new deal, but no offer has been forthcoming and targets are being lined up to replace Hodgson.

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on a return to management with the south London club, while Sean Dyche and Swansea’s Steve Cooper are also in the mix.
