Crystal Palace player ratings vs Liverpool as Olise and Mateta impress despite defeat

Vicente Guaita - 6

Wasn't helped out by his defence at all for the opener and was unfortunate to do better for Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal shortly after closing down quickly. Did not deserve to have the penalty awarded against him late on.

Tyrick Mitchell - 4

Was dragged out of position for Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal but can be felt hard done by as Roberto Firmino was offside and made an attempt to play the ball.

Marc Guehi - 5

Failed to clear a ball shortly after the opener that almost saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain double the visitors lead at the back post. Found Edouard with some good long passes out from the back.

Joachim Andersen - 5

Mix-up with Jeffrey Schlupp meant he was nowhere near Virgil van Dijk when the centre-back headed home the opener inside the first ten minutes. Recovered well in the second half

Joel Ward - 5

Struggled on the back foot against Alexander-Arnold but contributed to Palace attacks on the right and created a good chance for Mateta that was eventually flagged for offside.

Will Hughes - 6

Can do a job in holding midfield but this seemed too hard a task for Hughes to cope defensively against a strong Liverpool side. Still saw a decent amount of the ball but was limited in what he could do with it.

Jeffrey Schlupp - 6

Failed to track van Dijk properly along with Andersen and was punished for it accordingly as Liverpool went into an early 1-0 lead. Improved in the second half and played a killer pass for Mateta for Edouard's goal.

Conor Gallagher - 6

Was involved in Palace's press off the ball and almost got on the end of several chances in the first half only for the ball not to drop for him.

Odsonne Edouard - 7

Could have been better defending the corner for van Dijk's opener. Had some chances in the first 20 minutes to force a chance on goal but twice failed with his end product. Got the ball at his feet early in the second half in the box but couldn't find the net with his attempted backheel. Made his next chance count and could hardly miss the open goal.

Jean-Philippe Mateta - 7

Had a good chance in the first half but failed to beat Allison despite not knowing he was offside at that point. His second chance saw him make a smart run behind and take the ball past Alisson, though from an acute angle he failed to find the target.

Showed excellent composure to get on the end of Schlupp's pass and then pass to Edouard.

Michael Olise - 7

Was lively getting forward and back to help Joel Ward out with the rampaging Alexander-Arnold. Started the second half blisteringly and had consecutive teasing balls into the box that Gallagher and then Edouard almost scored from.
