Crystal Palace open talks with Roy Hodgson over new contract beyond 2020

Crystal Palace have opened talks with Roy Hodgson about a contract extension.

The 72-year-old is in the final year of his deal but Palace are keen to keep him beyond 2020.

Hodgson, in his 44th year in football management, has given no indication he has any plans to retire and Palace chairman Steve Parish hopes an agreement can be reached.

Former England manager Hodgson has done a fine job since replacing Frank de Boer in 2017 and Palace are sixth in the Premier League after an impressive start to the season.

Hodgson has brought a period of stability to Palace after they went through four managers in two-and-a-half years before his arrival.

Meanwhile, Palace have revealed ambitious £15million to £20m plans to redevelop their academy in a bid to become the first club in south London to secure Category One status.

Palace will submit a planning application in November for a major expansion of their academy site in Bromley.

The club hope to start building work in the new year, with a view to securing Category One status for the start of the 2020-21 season.

Palace secured a long-term lease for the site on Copers Cope Road in Beckenham, which is opposite their training ground, last December.

Parish said: “These plans are of critical importance to help ensure our future as an established Premier League football club.”
