Crystal Palace news: Patrick van Aanholt transfer stance, double boost for Eagles, loanee goal

There was no game for Crystal Palace this weekend, with Roy Hodgson's men out of the FA Cup following a 1-0 defeat against Championship side Derby County at the beginning of the month.

But Palace's players have been busy preparing for their next Premier League fixture, with the Eagles set to host Sheffield United at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Palace lost out against the Blades early in the season, with John Lundstram netting the only goal of the game at Bramall Lane back in August.

The Eagles will, therefore, be looking to avenge that defeat when Chris Wilder's men visit south London on Saturday.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

Below, we take a look at the latest Palace news ahead of that game.

Double boost for Palace

Crystal Palace have had plenty of injury problems in recent weeks.

But their injury crisis seems to be easing, with the number of players in the treatment room back in single figures and players nearing returns.

Luka Milivojevic should return this weekend against Sheffield United after missing the last three games through suspension, while the Eagles have also been boosted by two key men returning to training.

There was no game for Palace this weekend, with the Eagles out of the FA Cup, but Patrick van Aanholt and Christian Benteke were both back in training with the first team, as shown by the club in a video posted over the weekend.

Van Aanholt has been out since the 1-0 win against Bournemouth in early December, while Benteke has not featured since the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday, December 21.

Patrick van Aanholt bid

He may not have played for several weeks, but van Aanholt is still reportedly attracting attention in the January transfer window.

Sky Sports are reporting that PSV Eindhoven have made a bid for the Palace full-back, who has 18 months left on his current contract with the Eagles.

The report claims that the bid is around €5million (£4.2million), which Palace are set to reject, with Dutch publication Voetbal International claiming that the Eagles would not consider selling for less than €10million.

The 29-year-old has featured 17 times for the Eagles this season, scoring two goals, both of which came in 2-1 victories for Palace away from home - at Manchester United and at West Ham United.

Mixed debut for Palace loanee

Crystal Palace defender Sam Woods had an eventful debut on Saturday as he started life in Scotland with Hamilton Academical.

The lifelong Eagles fan made the move to join the Scottish Premiership side on loan last week, and went straight into the team for his debut as Hamilton faced Livingston on Saturday.

It was a difficult start for Woods and his new side as they found themselves 2-1 down at half time, having initially taken the lead through Shaun Want.

But Woods then got on the scoresheet himself in the second half to draw Hamilton level, with a header from close range.

However, two goals in the space of three minutes helped Livingston claim all three points, with Woods and his new team-mates tasting defeat, which leaves them second from bottom.
