Crystal Palace need Liverpool's Dominic Solanke to cure goalscoring woes, says Roy Hodgson

Roy Hodgson has admitted he needs Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke to improve Crystal Palace’s attacking threat, as he confirmed he is trying to bring the striker in on loan after chairman Steve Parish said he was a target on Sunday.

The former England manager’s side lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea on the same day, meaning they have still only scored five goals at home this season.

Lacking a striker, Hodgson wants to bring in Solanke, who has barely featured for Liverpool since signing from Chelsea last year.

“First of all, we’ve got to try and make sure we do get him here on loan. If [CEO] Steven [Parish] has mentioned that, then it’s no secret he’s a target. What would he do? Provide an attacking threat. He’s a proven goalscorer through all the age groups at Chelsea and England. If he comes here, it’ll be up to him to show he can do that in Premier League football. He’s someone with the profile we’re looking for, and the ability we are looking for. We know him better from the England games, and the performances with England.

“I thought he was a good signing from Liverpool’s point of view, but he’s been kept out of the team by some very strong players. It would take some player to knock their front three out of the team, so it’s not a negative in relation to him that he’s not been able to do so.

“I don’t need or want to go into detail, because I have been doing the game. If you want chapter and verse on the deal as it is or may be, speak to Steve Parish. Steve has given out the fact, I suppose. I’m not supposed to go into any more detail.”
