Crystal Palace must kick on after run of horror fixtures, says Gary Cahill

Crystal Palace must be ready to kick on once they emerge from a horror run of fixtures, Gary Cahill has warned.

After a flying start to the season, the Eagles have taken just one point from their last four games and will face Liverpool after the international break.

The game against the League leaders will end a run of five matches, four of which have been against the traditional big six and the remaining fixture against Leicester.

Their strong start to the season means a poor run against the bigger sides has not dropped Palace into any trouble, but Cahill has warned his Palace teammates that they cannot afford to feel safe because of that.

“I see the character in the team and it’s a fantastic character," Cahill told South London Press.

“We’ll be fine. I am looking forward to the coming months after the international break.

“The most important thing when you come out the back of these [tough] fixtures is not to think ‘oh, ok we’re alright now’. It’s very dangerous to do that. You’ve got to go the other way – you’ve got to come out of the back of these games and go even harder, as hard as you possibly can.

Palace's remaining fixtures in 2019

Nov 23 Liverpool (H)
Nov 30 Burnley (A)
Dec 3 Bournemouth (H)
Dec 7 Watford (A)
Dec 12 Brighton (H)
Dec 21 Newcastle (A)
Dec 26 West Ham (H)
Dec 28 Southampton (A)

“Then it is about consistency. The performance levels are good and, for sure, we can improve on last year. That’s what you’ve always got to strive to do.”

After facing Liverpool next weekend Palace have a run of games against sides they'll feel far more confident coming up against. The Eagles travel to Burnley before hosting Bournemouth and visiting Watford and do not face a side currently in the top four until they head to Manchester City in January.
