Crystal Palace make history for all the wrong reasons as Liverpool close on Premier League title

Crystal Palace were on the wrong end of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Reds were completely dominant from start to finish with Tent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane all getting on the scoresheet.

But there is a stat that perhaps underlines just how dominant Liverpool were at Anfield.

Since stats company Opta's records began in 2008, Liverpool are the first team to prevent an away side from having a single touch in their penalty area.

Roy Hodgson reveals the pride he has for his Crystal Palace side this season

“They have been excellent,” Palace boss Roy Hodgson said afterwards. “It’s just a question of when it’s mathematically impossible for anyone to catch them.

“They aren’t going to lose any matches. They are going to keep winning. Their determination and desire in a game they could easily have taken it easy in, you didn’t see them taking it easy.

“Even in the last four or five minutes they were desperately chasing the ball down and looking to score again. That attitude is why they are going to be champions.

“The big question is by how many points it’s going to be. I can only congratulate them on a wonderful season, a wonderful two seasons really.

“No doubt Jurgen will be looking forward to the day he can celebrate in front of all the fans.”

Liverpool will be crowned champions tonight - with seven matches to play - should Manchester City fail to pick up all three points away at Chelsea.
