Frank Lampard is reportedly back in the frame for the vacant managerial role at Crystal Palace.
The former Chelsea boss has been out of work since being sacked by the Blues in January and was previously talked up as a successor for Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park.
Those rumours quietened down recently, with former Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo then emerging as one of the prime candidate to take the reins at Palace.
Despite seemingly edging close to an appointment at Selhurst Park, that deal apparently fell through at the last minute, apparently due to concerns over the Portuguese’s backroom staff.
As a result, Palace have been forced to look elsewhere for a new man and have renewed their interest in Lampard according to the Mirror.
The 42-year-old reportedly remains well thought of by the Eagles’ hierarchy having had talks with the club before the prospect of appointing the former Porto boss came to fruition.
Discussions were put on hold with the ex-midfielder amid Nuno’s potential appointment but could well be revived as Palace attempt to install a manager ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
Lampard has so far impressed in his two managerial roles following retirement in 2016.
He at first led Derby County to the Championship play-off final in his managerial job within the game, before then being offered a return to Stamford Bridge.
He then managed to lead Chelsea to the top four despite being in the midst of a transfer ban before finding things slightly more difficult in his second season back in west London.
Lampard was eventually sacked in January and replaced by Thomas Tuchel who earned the Blues a place in the Premier League top four, whilst winning the Champions League and claiming a spot in the FA Cup final.
