Crystal Palace legend Julian Speroni will consider playing into his 40s – even if it means leaving the club

Julian Speroni is not ready to retire at the end of the season and will consider playing on into his 40s next season - even if that means leaving Crystal Palace finishing his career at another club.

The 39-year-old is in his 15th season at Palace and turns 40 in May. This season could be his last at Selhurst Park but he does not want to hang up his gloves yet.

Vicente Guaita, Wayne Hennessey and Lucas Perri are expected to be Palace’s three goalkeepers next season, and Speroni is unlikely to be offered a new contract this summer.

But the Argentinian has given no indication he will retire and he still feels capable of playing on despite his mistake against Liverpool last weekend.

Speroni, who made his 404th appearance for Palace at Anfield last weekend, has been a model professional throughout his career and has kept himself in good shape.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson is set to stick with the veteran against Tottenham in the FA Cup on Sunday. Perri was today finalising his loan move from Sao Paulo but the 21-year-old Brazilian has never made a senior appearance and Speroni is preparing to play against Spurs.

The experienced goalkeeper has responded well this week to his mistake against Liverpool and it has not affected his confidence.
