Crystal Palace injury boost confirmed by Roy Hodgson ahead of Tottenham clash

Crystal Palace are set to welcome back Wilfried Zaha for Sunday's Premier League clash against Tottenham.

Eagles manager Roy Hodgson confirmed the massive injury boost during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon as he revealed the winger could even start in north London.

"Yes," Hodgson said when asked whether Zaha would be back for the clash against Spurs. "He's trained well this week, there's no reason why I can't consider him for a place in the team.

"He's missed lots of games for us in that period of time, but he's still come back quicker than the medical department thought might be possible because of his incredible powers of recovery.

"We're really pleased to have him back, as well as Jeff Schlupp.

"It's good to see him back as well, so that's two of the important players we've been missing in the last five or six games back with us again."

Zaha has missed the last five Palace games with a hamstring injury suffered in the 2-1 win away to Newcastle United at the beginning of February.

And in his absence, Hodgson has seen a dip in performances from his side over the last month, with back-to-back defeats against Leeds United and Burnley without scoring.

But the Ivory Coast is in contention to return and improve a Palace attack that struggled to create much in recent goalless draw against Fulham and Manchester United.

With that said, Jose Mourinho has already admitted he would not be surprised to see Zaha line up against his side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"He [Zaha] is a very good player, it doesn’t surprise me that he is fit to play against us because everyone is fit against us," he said. "The goalkeepers always play well against us. Zaha is a good player but if he plays it means another player isn't and they have such a good group of attacking players that one plays, another one doesn't.

"When you look at Crystal Palace you are talking about Zaha, Benteke, Ayew, Batshuayi, Mateta and to speak about very good attacking players like Townsend, Eze, they have everything to score goals.

"[It's] probably just a moment. The two matches we played against them, one this season, one last season they scored and they took points away from us so I have lots of respect for them. That's it."
