Crystal Palace identify Burnley boss Sean Dyche as next manager

Crystal Palace see Sean Dyche as the ideal long term successor to Roy Hodgson.

Palace boss Hodgson, 72, has recently signed a new one year deal taking him to 2021 and has done a remarkable job at Selhurst Park and they want him to stay as long as possible.

But when the time eventually comes, Burnley boss Dyche would be seen as potentially the ready made replacement because of the job he has done at Turf Moor.

Dyche has established himself as one of the best and over-achieving bosses in the Premier League and in many ways has a similar managerial template to Hodgson.

Hodgson has established Palace as a mainstay in the Premier League, works within a budget and continually gets results against the odds and there is no question of him going before he is ready.

Dyche is in a similar mould at Burnley and has been at Turf Moor for eight years and there has been strong interest in the past from Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa.

But Dyche has remained loyal and, like Hodgson, has a strong relationship with the club’s hierarchy which has made him almost irreplaceable.

However, Dyche - who is regarded as a hero among Burnley fans - did hint last week that he could one day be tempted to move on for a new challenge.

Dyche, talking to Eammon Holmes on the Eamonn and the Gaffers podcast, said: “I think the honest answer is that we've done a lot of work at Burnley. It’s how far you can keep the journey going, where it can it go. So there's a reality to that.

“It is a good place to work, I like the people I work for and with so that's beneficial. I do have a reasonable say in quite a lot of the club. Not everything but in a lot of things.

“If the opportunity to come to somewhere that I thought would really enhance my chances as a manager to continue improving and continue testing myself, who knows?

“But I've been down this road before. There’s been links before. I'm still at Burnley Football Club and it would have to be a balanced situation for me to look at anyway.

“You have to know what the realities are. There have been recent stories that are nothing to do with me.

"But they do come around now and again, but I’m still at Burnley. So I can say I've been asked many times over the years but I’m still at Burnley.”
