Crystal Palace handed injury boost as Liverpool defender picks up knock ahead of Anfield clash

Crystal Palace have been handed an injury boost ahead of their weekend fixture against Liverpool.

The Eagles make the trip to Anfield on Monday night looking to pick up their first points of the season following their opening day defeat to Arsenal.

And their task has been made slightly easier with news that Joel Matip will miss the game due to picking up a groin injury on Friday, per the Liverpool Echo .

The potential absence of Matip comes at a bad time for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp with Ibraham Konate out for an extended period of time with a knee injury.

Joe Gomez could deputise at the back alongside Virgil van Dijk should Matip fail to be passed fit over the next few days. The last time Gomez started a league game alongside Van Dijk, Liverpool lost 7-2 to Aston Villa.

The Reds defence looked shaky against Fulham last weekend and conceded twice in 2-2 draw, just 24 hours after Palace shipped two to Arsenal.
