Crystal Palace handed injury blow as Roy Hodgson gives fitness update ahead of Leicester clash

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that winger Andros Townsend is likely to miss Sunday's Premier League clash against Leicester City after picking up a muscle strain against Arsenal.

The former England man played the full 90 minutes of the game vs the Gunners, but picked up an injury that looks set to keep him out for the short term.

While Townsend did return to training today (Friday), Hodgson has revealed that the 28-year-old is a serious doubt for the visit of the high flying Foxes.

"I think we may have lost Andros Townsend which is a blow. He felt a muscle strain against Arsenal and hasn’t trained before today," the Palace boss said in his pre-match press conference.

"He was desperate to see how it went but didn’t complete the session. We’ll see tomorrow of course but I’ll be surprised."

However, there was also some good news on the injury front, with goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, defender Mama Sakho and Connor Wickham all making good progress.

"The good news is [Vicente] Guaita has trained all week and Mama [Sakho] and Connor [Wickham] took part in the early part of our session today. We’re really quite blessed with not having many injuries, though it is a blow to lose Andros."
