Crystal Palace fans work out brilliant way to afford Conor Gallagher's £50m Chelsea price tag

A Crystal Palace fan has set up a GoFundMe page with the target of raising £50million for the Eagles to spend on buying Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.

The page was set up in the aftermath of Gallagher's starring performance against Everton on Sunday, in which his two goals helped down the Toffees and move him to the top of Palace's goalscorers list for the season.

The 21-year-old has been the Eagles standout player so far this season, and there's been a lot of talk around whether he will return to Chelsea on the expiry of his loan or if Palace would consider launching an audacious bid for his permanent signature.

Palace manager Patrick Vieira has been coy about such a bid, instead diverting the question by praising Gallagher's performances this season and challenging him to keep them up while he is still playing for the south Londoners.

"It is still too early to talk about him, if we are going to sign him or not," said the Eagles boss back in November.

“He is a Chelsea player, we have him for the year and we will keep working with him to try and improve his skills. If we can make him an international player then we will be happy with that. Then we will look at it at the end of the season.”

In a recent report from the CIES Football Observatory, Gallagher was ranked one of Europe's most valuable midfielders under the age of 23, giving him an estimated transfer value of just above £25.5million.

Chelsea would demand a much higher fee if they were to even entertain the idea of a permanent transfer, however, with some Palace fans deciding they need to take matters into their own hands by starting a tongue-in-cheek fundraiser to stump up the cash themselves.

So far just £20 has been donated to the cause, but with more eye-catching performances maybe that total will rise as we get closer to the end of the season.
