Crystal Palace fans will love what Gary Cahill has said about Eagles captain Luka Milivojevic

As a former Chelsea captain, Gary Cahill knows a thing or two about leadership.

And the Palace defender has been full of praise for Eagles skipper Luka Milivojevic following his move to south London this summer.

Cahill joined the Eagles earlier this month following his release from Chelsea at the end of last season, and he has made an early impression with his new club, helping Palace to a 2-1 win against Manchester United on his debut for the club.

The 33-year-old showed his experience and leadership qualities as he helped the Eagles to a first win in the Premier League era against Manchester United.

But he has spoken about why Palace's current captain is the perfect man for the job, having been impressed by the Serbian midfielder during his short time at the club.

“My first impressions of Luka were very positive," Cahill told the matchday programme ahead of the game against his old club Aston Villa today (Saturday).

"He’s clearly a big character within the dressing room and I can see why he’s got the armband.

"He’s got lots of traits I’d look to see in a captain: very authoritative and, first and foremost, an excellent central midfield player.”

Meanwhile, the defender has also been full of praise for Roy Hodgson, who he previously worked with during his time as England manager, when the now-Palace boss made him England vice-captain.

“What you see with the manager is what you get. He has his ways of working and he expects training and games to be done with high levels of concentration and tempo which is very similar to what he was like as England manager,"said Cahill.

"I know his principles and I’m looking to do the things that he wants.”
