Crystal Palace fans pay tribute to Croydon tram crash victims during Chelsea match

Crystal Palace and Chelsea fans were united in remembrance today (Saturday) as they delivered fitting tributes before and during the London derby.

Ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge, players, officials and supporters from both sides joined in a minute's silence, to remember those people who served in the armed forces and lost their lives, ahead of Remembrance Day tomorrow (Sunday).

Players gathered around the centre circle prior to kick off, while the coaching staff from both sides joined fans in standing to observe a minute's silence in an act of remembrance in west London.

And Palace fans rose again to applaud in the seventh minute of the game to remember the seven people who lost their lives in the Croydon tram tragedy three years ago, which included two Eagles supporters.

Seven people - Dane Chinnery, Donald Collett, Phillip Logan, Robert Huxley, Mark Smith, Phil Seary and Dorota Rynkiewicz - died when a tram derailed near Sandilands tram stop on November 9, 2016.

Days after the incident in 2016, a minute's silence was held before Palace hosted Manchester City to remember the seven people killed in the tragedy, while Eagles fans have held a minute's applause in the closest game to the anniversary of the tram crash in each year since then.
