Crystal Palace facing potential injury crisis as club sweat on Wilfried Zaha scan result

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is facing an injury crisis just two games into Project Restart after Wilfried Zaha limped off early at Liverpool on Wednesday.

Zaha lasted just 15 minutes of the 4-0 defeat after insisting to Hodgson and medical staff he was able to play despite being aware of a small calf problem.

Hodgson was already without Jeffrey Schlupp, James Tomkins and Martin Kelly before making the trip north, with the team sheet revealing that Christian Benteke and Vicente Guaita were also out. Palace were able to name just eight of the available nine substitutes.

Zaha and Benteke were due to be assessed on Thursday morning, with Hodgson hoping he will be able to call upon them to face Burnley on Monday.

Hodgson said: “I imagine they will be getting assessed up until Sunday. Benteke has a strain that has been scanned and diagnosed.

“With Wilf, we don’t really know the extent of the damage so until we get that scan on him we will just be hoping that we won’t be without the pair again.”
