Crystal Palace donate use of Selhurst Park to NHS for Covid vaccinations

Crystal Palace have announced that they are donating the use of Selhurst Park to the NHS, with the stadium set to be used as a vaccination centre for Covid-19.

The stadium will become one of London's largest vaccination venues when it opens later in January, with staff set to take over the Glaziers Lounge in the Main Stand.

The lounge has been adapted in order to deliver the vaccine safely and efficiently while still maintaining social distancing protocols.

Selhurst Park was previously offered to the NHS in March when the pandemic first hit, with club chefs preparing hundreds of meals per week to frontline workers, elderly and vulnerable people shielding at home, families facing food poverty and the homeless.

"We are proud to be playing our part in helping the NHS deliver the vaccine to as many people as possible as quickly as possible," Palace chairman Steve Parish said in a statement.

"Selhurst Park sits at the heart of our community so we were delighted to put our stadium at the disposal of the NHS.

"Nothing could be more important than the rapid roll-out of the vaccine program to allow all to return to something approaching normality."

Palace have faced criticism over the last week for their handling of a protocol breach by captain Luka Milivojevic on New Year's Eve.

The midfielder spent the evening with Serbia teammate and Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic - a breach of government guidelines.

However, he was still selected to captain the side against Sheffield United on January 2nd - a decision which caused some consternation among fans - though manager Roy Hodgson dismissed the concerns.
