Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss has been charged with violent conduct by the FA for allegedly biting an opposition player while on loan with Newport County.
Inniss was sent off during injury time of Tuesday's EFL Trophy defeat to West Ham Under-23s for an off-the-ball incident involving 18-year-old Hammers defender Reece Hannam.
The straight red card shown to Inniss results in an automatic three-match ban.
However, after reviewing the case the FA have come to the conclusion that three games is an insufficient punishment.
Inniss, who has made just one senior appearance for Crystal Palace and is now with his ninth temporary club, has been charged with breaching FA Rule E3(1) which dictates that: "A Participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour".
Inniss has until 6pm BST on Tuesday to provide a response to the charge.
