Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward makes frank admission about Wolves' dramatic late goal

Joel Ward has admitted that he made a misjudgement as ten-man Wolves scored a late equaliser to snatch a point against Crystal Palace yesterday (Sunday).

Diogo Jota scored in the fifth minute of injury time at Selhurst Park, after the ball fell to him at the far post from Adama Traore's cross after it appeared that Ward had slipped in the box as he tried to make a connection with the ball.

But the Palace defender, whose shot was deflected into the goal by Leander Dendoncker for Palace's opener, made an honest admission about his role in the Wolves equaliser.

“It was one of those misjudgements, it skimmed off the top of my head and it is a bitter one to swallow," he said, speaking after the game.

“I think it is never nice to concede late on and we have got to learn from that. A couple of scenarios where we should have done a bit better and put it to bed.

“But we dust ourselves down and go again next week, with another home game to put it right and carry on the momentum from what, at times, was a strong performance, particularly in the second half."

Meanwhile, Ward also gave his reaction to his deflected 46th minute strike going down as an own goal by Dendoncker, having celebrated it as his own.

“That sums it up doesn’t it, but it is what it is. We dust ourselves down and go again," he said.

“We will digest it, go again and get ourselves ready for Norwich.”
