Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill ready for debut as tough Man Utd trip looms

Gary Cahill is 'more than ready' to make his Crystal Palace debut at Manchester United as the Eagles head to Old Trafford looking for their first win of the season.

The former England captain, who joined on a free transfer late in the window having left Chelsea at the end of last season, has impressed coaches with his fitness levels despite the lack of a pre-season but is yet to make an appearance.

Palace's weakened back four lacked composure against Sheffield United and Cahill would be a welcome addition, with the 33-year-old desperate to make his mark on the squad.

“I’ve got a burning desire to win football matches and play consistently well at the highest level, first of all for me and then hopefully I can rub off on the players and staff around me and try and push the club in the right direction," he told TalkSport.

“That’s the pressure I need to put on myself.

"I need to be as hungry as ever, which I will be because all I need to do is flip my memory to last year to give me that fire in my belly to perform.

“I’m more than ready to go now and I’m looking forward to the season.”
