Newport County loanee Ryan Inniss has been accused of biting another player during Wednesday's night's EFL Trophy defeat to West Ham United's under-21s.
The 24-year old, currently on loan from Premier League Crystal Palace, could now be facing a lengthy ban following the incident, which came in the dying minutes of the game.
County had initially come back from a goal down inside the first minute to take a 4-1 first-half lead, with Tristan Abrahams, Corey Whitely and youngsters Lewis Collins and Ryan Hillier all finding the net.
But the game turned after the break, as the Hammers bagged four unanswered goals to come back and win the tie.
However, there was still time for further drama late on as Inniss, who joined Newport on a season-long loan last month, was shown a straight red in the 88th minute for an off-the ball incident with West Ham's Reece Hannam.
County boss Michael Flynn said after the game: "Their player said he got bitten, so I’ll have a look at that and find out what happened.
"If he has, it’s inexcusable and I won’t be fighting his corner."
Newport are understood to be confident that Inniss won't receive any further punishment beyond the three-match ban for a straight red card, and there is no indication that they've been informed of any further investigation from the FA.
