Crystal Palace confirm surprise Max Meyer January transfer decision

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Max Meyer has left the club by mutual consent.

The German midfielder, who joined the Eagles on a free transfer in August 2018, has found his opportunities limited at Palace in recent seasons, with his only appearance for the club this season coming in the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth.

Since joining the club, the former Schalke midfielder has played 56 times for Palace, but has struggled to cement a place in the side, with his number of appearances decreasing in each season with the Eagles.

He has rarely featured in matchday squads this season though, and has now departed the club, with his contract set to expire in the summer, having signed a three-year deal back in August 2018.

In a statement, Palace said: "Max Meyer has left Crystal Palace Football Club by mutual consent.

"The German midfielder made 56 appearances for the club, scoring twice, since his move to south London in the summer of 2018.

"Everyone at Crystal Palace F.C. thanks Max for his efforts whilst with us, and wishes him all the very best for the future."
