Crystal Palace confirm exit of coach who played key role in Aaron Wan-Bissaka's rise

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Richard Shaw is leaving the club.

The former Palace defender is leaving his position as U23 coach, having been involved with the club in a coaching capacity since 2013.

Shaw, who played more than 200 times for the Eagles between 1986 and 1995, returned to the club in 2013 as a coach within the club's academy, before going on to become the U16 head coach, and in recent years, the coach of the U23 side.

During his time at the club, Shaw played a key role in Aaron Wan-Bissaka's development, having coached him at U16 level and U23 level, prior to his first team debut in 2018.

The now-Manchester United defender made the transition from being a winger to a full-back while playing at Palace, with Shaw playing him at right-back at U23 level before his rise to the first team.

Shaw also guided Palace's U23 side to the Professional Development League Two (South) title in 2018, with the Eagles then losing out in the play-offs against Nottingham Forest.

But now, Shaw has left the club, with Palace confirming the news this afternoon (Tuesday).

In a statement, Palace said: "Richard Shaw is leaving Crystal Palace to pursue other opportunities.

The club would like to thank Richard for his contribution and wish him every success in his future career.

Shaw said: ”I've enjoyed my time at Palace but now it’s time to explore other exciting coaching opportunities."
