Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish makes statement on Liverpool transfer bid

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has rubbished a suggestion that the club have made a bid - formal or otherwise - for Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster.

Palace have been linked to a number of players with two weeks remaining of the summer transfer window, including the likes of Said Benrahma.

Roy Hodgson says that he is hopeful of securing more players to add to the squad depth at Selhurst Park, with Michy Batshuayi, Eberechi Eze and Nathan Ferguson joining the club this summer.

Palace have also been linked with Liverpool starlet Brewster, who spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Swansea.

Various reports have claimed that Palace are closing in on the attacker, with a rumoured fee of around £25million.

However, Parish has shot down claims that the club have already made a bid for the 19-year-old, stating that the story is a "fabrication from start to finish".

Hodgson insisted last week that another striker was the club's current priority in the transfer window, and that a move for Benrahma was not in an advanced position by any means.

"At the moment [a move for Benrahma] is not something we've discussed at great length," Hodgson told reporters.

"The interest we would have would be totally dependent on the price because it's not really the priority area.

"It is not our priority. We're still looking to get another striker in, that is the priority. Maybe a wide midfielder, but how much funds we have I couldn't possibly tell you.

"We know that he's a good player, but not only we know he's a good player, a lot of other people know that he's a good player because he's shown it during the last two seasons.

"I have no intention to get involved with discussing his qualities.

"We'll see what happens, he's a player whose name has been mentioned, obviously a player that we do know, but there's going to have to be a lot happening before a concrete move can be possible."
