Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira avoids police charges after Everton fan altercation at Goodison Park

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira will not face police charges following his altercation with an Everton fan during last week’s pitch invasion at Goodison Park.

The incident took place at the end of Thursday’s Premier League meeting between the sides, which saw the Toffees come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and secure their top-flight status for next season.

Vieira reacted angrily after being goaded by a home fan, who shouted abuse and made offensive hand gestures in the Frenchman’s face.

The Eagles manager first grabbed and then aimed a kick at the supporter before being shepherded away by more fans.

The incident is being looked at as part of a wider Football Association (FA) investigation into the pitch invasion as a whole, but Merseyside Police will take no action.

“Merseyside Police has concluded enquiries into an altercation on the pitch following the Everton v Crystal Palace match on Thursday (19 May),” a statement from the force read.

“Officers have spoken to both men involved and the opportunity to make a formal complaint or support a prosecution was declined.”
