Crystal Palace boss addresses future of Nottingham Forest striker 'target' Connor Wickham

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has not ruled out a January move for reported Nottingham Forest target Connor Wickham.

The Reds were last week said to have enquired about the Premier League striker’s availability, as head coach Sabri Lamouchi looks to bolster his attacking ranks.

Wickham has struggled for game time so far this season, making just seven appearances for the Eagles and scoring one goal.

Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City are also said to be keen, and Hodgson has said a loan switch could be considered for the player who suffered a serious knee injury in 2016.

“When it comes to Connor, it is really a question about him,” Hodgson said in his pre-match press conference today.

“It has been a long time since he has been able to play regularly.

“He was recovering from a serious injury and then picking up other injuries.

“This season, we have not had that with him. But he has had to accept others are playing in front of him.

“I think for his future, he needs to get a run of games. I might not be able to guarantee him that, but I must emphasise he trains well, he is very professional, and if he stays, that is no problem. You can’t have too many front players.

“After scoring at Norwich and being heavily involved in our equaliser at Manchester City, he is feeling quite good about himself.

“I have nothing against him staying, but it is a discussion the club will need to have with him about, if it is better for him to be the first name on a team sheet somewhere else, which I can’t guarantee him.”

Forest manager Lamouchi said last week, when asked about the link to Wickham and Watford forward Andre Gray: “I can talk only about my players. They are great players, but they are not my players.

“Of course we are looking at a lot of options.”
