'Crying tears of joy at work' - Fans react to Luke O'Nien signing new Sunderland contract

Black Cats fans have woken up this morning to the news that Luke O'Nien has extended his stay on Wearside until 2024.

The versatile midfielder was named in the League One Team of the Year having played the majority of the season out of position in the heart of defence.

O'Nien's contract had expired at the end of June, but Sunderland head coach Lee Johnson was confident that he would stay at the club, having spoken to the 26-year-old every other day.

He joined the Black Cats from Wycombe Wanderers in the summer of 2018, and has gone on to become a fan favourite on Wearside.
