NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A new scenic attraction has been found in Khon Buri National Park, but only the most determined visitors can get to it at this time.

It has been named the "Larn hin rong hai", or Crying rock lawn, and was found by a survey team led by Amornwat Sobekrathoke, chairman of Ban Mai tambon administration organisation.

It is in an area presently accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicle, followed by a half-kilometre hike along a creek.

The water seeps out of the ground through three holes in the rock, flows across it and then tumbles down into a pond below. The survey believed the rock lie across a stream, which has eroded it partly away over a long time.

Mr Amornwat said the area is beautiful, with natural rock formations in layers around four-metres high which the water flows down.

What makes it different is that the water does not flow across the rock, but seeps up out of it through the holes.

The TAO chief plans to promote the discovery as a new natural attraction, challenging visitors to make it to the “Crying rock lawn”.

It is about 80km from Muang district. Intending visitors should first contact park officials at Ban Sap Sadao for directions.
