A man has been taken to hospital with significant leg injuries after he was crushed by 300kg of steel plates on Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews - including NSW Ambulance, the Toll Air Ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter - were called to McDougall's Hill near Singleton about 6.30am after reports a man was trapped inside a shipping container.
The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Peter Watts said the man's location meant the rescue was "extremely complex".
"Accessing the patient to treat is always a priority, however, it is imperative that we take the time to evaluate the situation and the risks associated so that we don't cause any further harm to the patient, our put ourselves in any danger," Inspector Watts said.
"Our NSW Ambulance Rescue team did an amazing job, they were able to locate a forklift onsite which they used to support the load and cut through the side of the container to get the patient out danger.
"Once we are able to get to the patient - we were able to conduct a more thorough assessment, and unfortunately, he has suffered significant leg injuries."
