Crusaders captain Coates shares theory about teammate's wonder goal against Larne

Crusaders captain Colin Coates believes this season's new "lighter" Danske Bank Premiership match ball contributed to David Cushley's wonder goal against Larne.

The Crues earned a 2-2 draw at Seaview on Saturday thanks to a 30-yard rocket from Cushley in the second half.

The super-sub let fly from distance in the 75th minute, with the ball swerving viciously to leave Larne keeper Conor Devlin completely wrong-footed.

Speaking after the game, Coates said: "I think it must have moved quite a bit.

"Devlin was away to the left, then tried to go back the other way.

"These new balls we are playing with, I don't know if it has been said before, but they are really light. They do move, and whatever way Cush has hit it, it has obviously moved considerably through the air and fooled Devlin."

The NI Football League unveiled the new uhlsport Fifa Pro standard ball for the 2019/2020 season back in June.

And it appears the new ball is lighter than some of its predecessors.

Coates was quick, however, to heap praise on Cushley for his thunderous strike which helped Crusaders earn a crucial point at Seaview.

"That's Cushley for you," Coates added.

"He can be a frustrating player at times but he is probably the only player in the league who is capable of doing what he does.

"So we are very lucky to have him."
