Cruise operator announces Glasgow departure for one-off UK cruise in September

A cruise operator has announced a special one-off cruise round the UK that is to depart from Glasgow in September.

The sailing, organised by Norwegian expedition cruise line Hurtigruten, will take place on their MS Roald Amundsen ship - the world’s first hybrid expedition cruise ship.

Setting sail on September 12, the expedition will last eleven days and sail (from Greenock) around some of the UK’s most beautiful mainland ports and islands.

Port of calls on the trip include Oban, Stornoway, the archipelago of St. Kilda, Rathlin Island in Northern Ireland, Liverpool, Pembroke Dock in Wales, Cobh near Cork in Ireland, the Isles of Scilly and Fowey in Cornwall before finishing in Portsmouth.

The various visits will offer people the chance to explore castles, picturesque gardens, magnificent scenery and coastal paths as well as plenty of off-the-beaten-track spots.

In taking place aboard a hybrid ship, The British Isles Off The Beaten Track cruise will focus on sustainable exploration with on board single use plastics banned and people having the opportunity to participate in a beach clean-up during the trip.

And will include in-depth lectures on a variety of topics, a citizen Science programme allowing guests to assist with live scientific research and a professional onboard photographer to give tips and tricks for the best landscape and wildlife photos.

While guests will have use of the ship's hot tubs, panoramic sauna and indoor gym and outdoor gym.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the maximum number of passengers allowed on the expeditions will be set to 350, to ensure social distancing and avoidance of crowding.

Prices for the cruise are listed from £1,999 per person with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
