When it comes to creating iconic soundtracks and memorable music moments, nobody does it better than Disney.
From "The Bare Necessities" to "Let It Go," the Mouse House has showcased some of the most iconic and instantly recognisable tunes in the history of pop culture.
However, their use of songs recorded by other artists has been excellent too. For example, it's hard to think of The Mighty Ducks without Queen, Remember the Titans without Marvin Gaye, or Tron: Legacy without Daft Punk's banging soundtrack.
Well, with the brilliant duo of Emma Stone and Emma Thompson leading Cruella, viewers will get to see the rebellious early days of one of cinema’s most notorious—and notoriously fashionable—villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil.
Without giving too much away, the story is set in 1970s London amid the punk rock revolution. A young girl named Estella (Stone) is determined to make a name for herself in the cut-throat world of fashion and with the help of two thieves, she sets about building her empire.
However, as the new fashion idol catches the eye of Baroness von Hellman (Thompson), a fashion legend, Estella learns that she has to embrace her wicked side and become Cruella if she wants to reach the top.

With beautiful sets, exquisite costumes and a supremely talented cast, there's no doubting that Cruella will be a hit with viewers and with a soundtrack that includes tracks by The Doors, The Clash, Queen, Blondie, and a cover of the classic 'I Wanna Be Your Dog,' it's going to be even more popular.
Speaking ahead of the film's launch, director Craig Gillespie told the Irish Mirror and other outlets that he devised certain scenes with the music in mind.
"On the soundtrack, I actually designed the movie knowing we're gonna have certain music. So, you have to design shots that give space for music. And then very often on the set, I'll be putting music I cut on the set as I go, so I'll be putting music on the scenes as we're shooting them.

"There's a scene with a track from The Doors - it's when we first meet the Baroness. I threw that on, on the day that we were shooting and it never changed! There's also a great Nancy Sinatra song, which was kinda spontaneous when we were shooting. I just went to my phone and I'm like, 'how about Nancy Sinatra's "Boots Made for Walking?" And was like, "Okay." And she came out dancing to that. There's always music in my mind as we're going through it and looking for opportunities throughout," he said.
While the chance to revisit one of the most iconic villains in the history of Disney was the main draw, Gillespie was excited and enthralled by the darkness of the character.
"Villains are always so fun to portray because you have more license to do things that aren't quite appropriate and push the boundaries. We get to create these larger-than-life characters," he said.

The director of I, Tonya adds: "It was really important to me that this it was not just black and white. Obviously no pun intended there with Cruella. But I wanted there to be this gray area and be able to empathise with the choices that she was making. And the situations that she was was responding to. I wanted to do it in a way that was really fun.
Cruella will be available to watch in Ireland on Disney+ with Premier Access from Friday, 28 May.
