Cruel thugs smash into 94-year-old’s home before stealing her dad's war medals

Heartless thieves smashed their way into a 94-year-old’s home before stealing her dad's war medals in a despicable robbery.

Three masked men carried out the sickening raid at the elderly woman’s home in Hilltop Road, Oldbury at about 7.10pm on Saturday, just hours before Remembrance Sunday.

West Midlands Police are now investigating and said the thieves smashed the glass back door before threatening the pensioner with violence forcing her to open her safe.

They went on to snatch the war medals and cash before fleeing the scene, Birmingham Live reports.

Police said although the pensioner was ‘unharmed’ during the incident she has been left ‘very shaken’ by what happened.

The crime happened just hours before the nation paid its respects to the war dead (Somebody lays a wreathe)

Among the precious items that were snatched were two round WW1 medals with ribbon and the engraving ‘TA Morris’ were taken along with a Queen Victoria ‘Goblet Florin’ which is a two shilling piece minted in 1800, and a five shilling piece made into a brooch were all stolen.

Detective Sergeant Ian Comfort from Force CID, said: “If you’re offered these medals or have any information I would urge you to get in touch.

"The woman is understandably heartbroken that her father’s war medals have been taken from her and is desperate to be reunited with them.

“We are carrying out urgent enquiries to try and find those responsible. If you have any information, please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information that could help reunite these items with their rightful owner, is asked to get in touch via Live Chat on the police’s website, or by calling 101 quoting 20/1478678/21.

Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
