Cruel thief duped Scots pensioner into letting him in her home and stole her purse

A manhunt is underway for a cruel thief who duped a Scots pensioner into letting him into her home so he could steal her purse.

The victim, a woman in her eighties, was targeted between 12.15pm and 1.15pm on Friday, February 26.

The trickster knocked on her door and swindled his way into her home in Dundee's Bruce Street.

Once inside, he distracted her and then made off with her purse.

Police have now released a description of the suspect in a bid to trace him.

He is described as in his early 40s, around 5ft 6, slim build and with a moustache.

At the time of the robbery he was wearing a dark jacket, black woollen beanie hat and a medical-style face mask.

A statement from Tayside Police reads: "If you have any information that could assist us, particularly if you live in the area and have private CCTV, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.

"Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident 2172 of 26th February."
