Cruel owner stands back and films as French bulldog drowns in swimming pool

A cruel owner filmed a dog drowning in a pet shop swimming pool with distressing footage showing the animal struggling before its tragic death.

The French bulldog appears distressed in the video which has been viewed more than three million times.

This horrific incident on Tuesday was also captured on CCTV by the pet shop which is based in Quanzhou, China.

The footage shows the black dog being lowered into the transparent pet pool after the owner allegedly claimed her dog could not walk properly and wanted it to get some exercise in the water.

However, seconds into the swim, the Frenchie becomes visibly distressed and struggles to keep itself afloat.

In the next 30 seconds, neither the staff member nor the pooch’s owner intervene as the dog slowly runs out of energy and disappears below the surface of the water, sinking to the tile floor below.

It is only then that the pet shop employee fishes the dog out of the water.

In video recorded by the clueless owner herself, she reportedly appears entertained and mocks her pet saying: "It can’t swim. Look."

However, the CCTV video shows her emotions quickly turning to panic and fear as the Frenchie appears lifeless on the pet shop floor.

The business’s manager said the pooch could not be revived, and they reportedly took responsibility for the incident by paying for the dog’s funeral and subsequent cremation.

The owner of the French bulldog also demanded £1,700 (15,000 RMB) in damages.

The business manager said: "A French bulldog costs about £227 (2,000 RMB) but she wanted 15,000 RMB. Still, I promised I would discuss it with the shop owner.

"But when I got home that night, her video showing her drowning dog was all over the internet, and suddenly we were the ones being blamed."

He later released CCTV footage from his shop hoping to 'add some perspective to the incident'.

He said: "As you can see in the video, our staff member immediately went to save the French bulldog as soon as it became clear that it was drowning.

"But from beginning to end, the owner doesn’t do a single thing and keeps filming even as our employee is trying to save her dog."

He has accused the woman of acting in bad faith by making the footage public and damaging the shop’s reputation as a result.

The pet shop said it would consider suing the owner of the French bulldog.
