'Cruel end' - James Maddison makes Anfield atmosphere claim after Liverpool defeat

Leicester City star James Maddison has made a claim about Anfield after losing to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds scored two second-half goals to see the tie finish 3-3 after 90 minutes, to send the quarter-final to penalties.

Jamie Vardy scored two quickfire goals for Leicester in the first half, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reduced the deficit.

However, Maddison got on the scoresheet with a long-range strike that beat Reds goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Drama unfolded in the second half, where late goals from Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino saw the tie go to penalties, which the Reds won 5-4 with Jota scoring the decisive spot-kick.

After the game, Maddison posted on social media his reaction to Leicester’s defeat to Liverpool, and in doing so paid a huge compliment to Anfield.

“Cruel end to a great game at the stadium with the best atmosphere in England,” wrote Maddison.

“Tough one to take!”

Oxlade-Chamberlain replied to Maddison's post on Instagram, saying: "Some strike from the boy," which was in reference to the Foxes playmaker's goal.

Liverpool will take on Arsenal in the semi-final, with the first tie away at the Emirates Stadium taking place in January 4-5 and the reverse fixture at Anfield a week later.
