Cruel crooks raid home of woman,81, as she sleeps upstairs

Cruel crooks raided a Paisley pensioner’s home as she slept upstairs.

Police are hunting yobs who targeted the 81-year-old woman’s home in the town’s Polsons Crescent in the early hours of Saturday.

The OAP was asleep when the suspects forced their way in to the house through the rear patio door and started rummaging for valuables.

The shaken victim was woken by a bang around 3am and again a short time later but went back to sleep.

When she woke around 9am in the morning she noticed her kitchen light was on and went to
investigate.

She discovered that callous thieves had taken her handbag containing her mobile phone, a three-figure sum of cash and bank cards along with alcohol.

Cops probing the break-in say the victim has been left badly shaken by the incident.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley community policing team, has appealed to anyone with information to come
forward.

She said: “Suspects forced entry through a rear patio door and stole a number of items.

“This was a despicable crime which has left the elderly victim very shaken and upset.

“It is an awful thing to happen to anyone but given the age of the victim it is particularly distressing.

“We are determined to identify whoever was responsible and I would urge anyone who may have information in relation to the incident to come forward.”

She added: “We would urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Polsons Crescent area of Paisley between 3.30am and 6am on Saturday, January
4.

“I’d also ask drivers who may have been in the area to check dashcam footage to see if you may have captured anything which may be useful to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
