Crucial update for ice cream vans trading in Leeds during lockdown

Leeds City Council has issued an update on ice cream vans operating during the lockdown.

People were initially asked to report ice cream vans seen trading after they were spotted operating "illegally" in various popular spots across the city.

A spokesperson warned in March that any vans seen selling ice creams during the lockdown would be handed a fine.

However, as lockdown measures have started to ease, ice cream vans are now allowed to trade again "in line with government guidelines on coronavirus".

It means that as we enter summer, you can now buy an ice cream from a truck if they pull up on your street - so long as they have put necessary precautions in place.

A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: "Thank you to everyone who has reported mobile businesses they have seen operating during the pandemic.

"These businesses, including mobile ice cream vans, are now trading in line with government guidelines on coronavirus and you no longer need to report these to us."

Several changes have come into effect in recent weeks as businesses begin to emerge from more than two months in the wilderness.

We've rounded up the full list of every type of business that can now legally open under the current rules - although plenty of tradespeople are still unable to work.
